Expo 2017: Central Asia’s First World’s Fair

Welcome to Astana World’s Fair, a guide to Expo 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan. This site is hosted by ExpoMuseum.com.

World’s fairs have a history going back to 1851 when the United Kingdom’s Prince Albert created the 1851 Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations. Since then, nations around the world have hosted international expositions. Soon afterwards the first world’s fair in North America was held. 1970 saw the first such event in Asia: Osaka’s Expo ’70.

Expo 2017 marks a first in my respects. It is the first world’s fair in Kazakhstan, the first in Central Asia, and the first expo held in a country with a majority Islamic population (70%).

Expo 2017 will be held on a 25 hectare (62 acre) site in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. It is expected to attract 3 to 4 million visitors during its 3-month run.
